Do Italian citizens need a visa to visit Azerbaijan?
Yes. Italian ordinary passport holders normally need a visa before travelling and are eligible to apply for an Azerbaijan e-Visa. This is a separate requirement from travel within Europe. A short tourist visit can use the electronic route; different purposes, non-standard documents or an individual exemption may call for another arrangement.

Living in Italy or holding a permesso di soggiorno does not make a traveller an Italian passport holder. Apply according to the document being used.

Bring the passport you use in the application
If your usual European travel wallet contains only an Italian identity card, add the passport before preparing this trip. Check its photograph page, document number and expiry date directly. Avoid copying details from an identity card into a field asking for passport information.
An approaching renewal is a reason to organise the passport first. There is little benefit in completing an application with a document you intend to replace before departure. Take the passport image after confirming which document will be carried, so the text and upload remain consistent.
Build the visa plan around your complete itinerary
For an Italy–Baku–Italy journey, the arrival and final departure are relatively straightforward. A route that visits another country and returns to Azerbaijan needs a separate review. The time left on a visa is not, by itself, permission to enter again.
List international segments in date order and mark each arrival into Azerbaijan, including a stop on the way home. Check whether a single visit fits your plans or a different visa arrangement is needed.

Arrange the visa before departure from Italy
Italian travel guidance says ordinary travellers should obtain their visa before the journey rather than expect to arrange one at the airport. It also describes ordinary entry by air, with land entry subject to exceptional authorisation. Treat an advertised road connection as something to verify separately.
If an agent or friend suggests a different entry method, check that the exception actually covers your passport, residence status and journey. An arrangement available to another nationality or a qualifying resident abroad may not apply to an Italian visitor travelling from Italy.
Prepare details for the individual traveller
Open the passport image at a readable size before uploading it. Compare the full name, date of birth, passport number and expiry with the original document. For a group booking, organise one clearly labelled set per traveller so another person's image is not attached by mistake.
Keep the intended accommodation address and an accessible email inbox ready. If someone completes the form for you, review the details yourself.
Check dates before choosing your processing option
Use the local arrival date in Azerbaijan rather than the day you leave home. Consider a sensible margin for a connecting flight or a changed departure when arranging your trip. Choose Standard or Urgent processing according to the time remaining and the completeness of the passport details.
An Italian passport must remain valid beyond the visa expiry, so check the document against the whole visa period rather than just the end of your holiday. For a stay exceeding 15 days, ask the hotel or host about place-of-stay registration and confirm it has been completed.

Can an Italian citizen use a carta d'identità for this trip?
Prepare a passport. Italian guidance requires a passport for entry into Azerbaijan; an identity card used on European trips is not the travel document to use for this application.
Can I return to Azerbaijan after a side trip to another country?
Review the entry conditions of your visa before planning that return. A single-entry document does not provide a second arrival merely because its validity dates have not ended.
I live in Italy but have another passport. Do I choose Italy?
Choose the nationality of the passport used for travel. Your Italian address or residence permit does not change that nationality or automatically provide the same visa eligibility.
Should I wait until arrival to arrange a visa?
An ordinary Italian passport holder should arrange the appropriate visa before departure. Do not base the trip on an airport exception that has not been confirmed for your circumstances.
