Indian ordinary-passport holders can apply online for an Azerbaijan e-Visa. Before choosing a processing option, check which passport you will use, how your names appear on its photo page and when you plan to arrive. OCI status, overseas residence and transit visas should be considered separately.

Can Indian passport holders apply for an Azerbaijan e-Visa?
Yes. India is on Azerbaijan's e-Visa eligibility list, so an Indian ordinary-passport holder can apply for a suitable short visit without first obtaining a US, UK or Schengen visa. Eligibility follows the travel document. If you hold an OCI card and a foreign passport, assess the nationality of that foreign passport instead of selecting India automatically.

Indian passport eligibility is not conditional on having a valid Schengen, UK or US visa. Other countries on a connecting itinerary have their own rules.
OCI and NRI are different
An Indian citizen living abroad may still use an Indian passport. An OCI cardholder holds a foreign nationality and should follow the passport used for the journey.
Names must follow the document
Keep given names and surname in their passport fields. Do not shorten a multi-part name to match a profile or booking account.

Choose the right nationality: Indian passport or OCI
For an Indian citizen resident abroad, an overseas address does not by itself change the passport nationality. Use India when the application and the journey use your Indian passport, then provide your actual place of residence in the appropriate address fields.
An OCI card is different: its holder is a foreign national, not an Indian citizen. For example, an OCI holder travelling with a British passport should check the rules for that passport. Birth in India, an Aadhaar card or family origin does not replace the travel-document nationality used to determine Azerbaijan entry requirements.
Check given names, surname and passport renewal
Read the labelled fields on the passport photo page. Include the given names recorded there and keep the surname in its designated field. A booking that joins or abbreviates names is not your primary reference.
If your passport has no surname, do not invent one or move names between fields without guidance. Resolve that case before submission. If you are waiting for a renewed passport, use the document that will actually accompany the journey; uploading the old passport while entering a new number creates a mismatch that needs correction.

Separate Azerbaijan eligibility from your flight route
An Indian ordinary passport is eligible for this e-Visa without a prior visa from the US, UK or a Schengen country. That answers the Azerbaijan application question; it does not answer whether you can transit a third country or leave its airport. Review each transit country separately before booking a connection.
If you live in the Gulf, a qualifying residence permit may offer a different Azerbaijan entry arrangement. Do not assume every residence card, visit visa or connection qualifies. For an e-Visa application, keep the selected nationality consistent with the passport even when your departure airport and residential address are outside India.
Make the application ready before selecting urgency
Prepare a clear image of the passport photo page, your Azerbaijan accommodation address, your expected entry date and reachable contact details. The form asks you to confirm the passport number and date of birth; compare both entries against the document rather than copying the first entry into the second without checking.
For a family booking, review each traveller's details and passport image, including children. Select processing around your Azerbaijan arrival, allowing time to fix an unreadable upload or unclear name. An urgent choice cannot remedy incorrect identity details or promise approval.

- Full photo-page image showing names, passport number and dates clearly.
- Names placed in the same given-name and surname fields as the passport.
- Azerbaijan entry date, accommodation details and actual residential address.
- Accessible email, a mobile number with country code and a processing option suited to the trip.
Check passport expiry against the visa's expiry date: the passport must remain valid for at least three months after that date. The 90-day visa window does not allow a 90-day stay; the maximum stay is 30 days.

Questions from Indian travellers
Do I need a US or Schengen visa to qualify as an Indian citizen?
No. India is independently included in Azerbaijan's e-Visa nationality list. A supporting US, UK or Schengen visa is not a prerequisite for that nationality eligibility. Check transit-country requirements separately.
Can an Indian citizen apply while living abroad?
Your passport nationality remains the starting point. Select India for an Indian passport and provide your current residence details separately. If relying on an overseas residence-permit entry exception, check its exact conditions first.
Which country should an OCI cardholder select?
Use the nationality of the foreign passport being used for the application and travel. An OCI card relates to entry and status in India; it does not make the holder an Indian citizen for Azerbaijan visa purposes.
What if my Indian passport has no surname?
Keep your document available and request guidance before submitting. Do not create a surname or assume an airline's name-format workaround is suitable for a visa application.
