Do Australians need an e-Visa for Azerbaijan?
Australian ordinary passport holders normally need a visa and are eligible for an Azerbaijan e-Visa. Smartraveller describes a 90-day visa window allowing up to 30 days in the country. The usual electronic visa is single-entry: it is not permission for repeated arrivals or for a 90-day stay.

Which date should an Australian traveller put in the form?
Open the itinerary at the final segment arriving in Azerbaijan. A departure from Sydney, Melbourne or another Australian airport may be followed by a long stopover and a later local arrival in Baku. Use the date of that arrival when choosing when the e-Visa should begin, rather than copying the date of the first flight.
Recheck this if the itinerary changes. An overnight stopover, a replacement connection or an earlier Baku flight can move the arrival outside a visa that has already been issued. The expiry of a 90-day window is also a firm boundary; it does not extend because a return flight was changed. Settle the actual dates before selecting a package.
Apply after renewal, using one consistent passport record
Smartraveller specifies passport validity of at least three months beyond the e-Visa expiry. Compare against the visa end date, not simply three months after a short stay. It also reminds travellers to check the document requirements of transit countries, which may use different validity periods.
If a renewal or replacement is in progress, prepare the visa from the document that will actually be used once it is issued. Do not combine a new number with a photo of the old passport. Check airline profiles and saved document scans at the same time, especially if a previous passport is still stored in an account or travel organiser’s records.

Standard is $59 USD per applicant, with a three-working-day processing window. Urgent is $99 USD in total, with a three-hour processing option available through weekends and holidays. Urgent is not an additional charge on top of Standard, and neither amount is quoted in Australian dollars.
Choose a reachable email address and check it before your first flight. An application receipt is not the issued visa. Wait for the actual result, verify the PDF and print it for the matching passport. If you will be in transit with limited connectivity, organise access to the document in advance instead of depending on airport Wi-Fi to retrieve an unreviewed attachment.
A wider Caucasus trip needs more than a single-entry assumption
For a holiday including another country and a return to Azerbaijan, count each arrival separately. Once a single-entry visa has been used to enter and you leave, the unused days are not another entry. Review the visa arrangement for the return before paying for transport.
Smartraveller warns that land-border arrangements can change at short notice. Confirm any proposed crossing with the relevant authorities and carrier rather than treating a visa as confirmation that a route is open. For a stay exceeding 15 days in Azerbaijan, organise place-of-stay registration separately and confirm responsibility with the hotel or private host.
Keep family passports, nationality and application records separate
Australian residence does not make every person in a household an Australian passport holder. Apply the rules for each traveller’s actual nationality and document. If you hold both Australian and Azerbaijani citizenship, clarify your entry obligations before using ordinary foreign-visitor guidance.
Each child needs an individual application, passport image and identity review. A shared family email can organise delivery, but it should not lead to one child’s passport page being attached to another traveller. Before continuing to payment, compare each name, date of birth, passport number, package and total against the source document.

Should I enter my Australian departure date or my Baku arrival date?
Use the local arrival date in Azerbaijan when choosing when the visa should start. Read the final flight segment, including any overnight or long stopover, rather than copying the first departure date.
Can I apply while waiting for a replacement Australian passport?
Prepare the application from the issued passport that will be used for travel. Do not assume a visa linked to an old number transfers to a replacement, or upload the old page with the new number.
Does the 90-day e-Visa let Australians stay for three months?
No. The visa window is normally 90 days, while the maximum stay is up to 30 days within the issued dates. The permitted stay and the validity window must both be respected.
Can I use one e-Visa for Baku, Georgia and another stay in Baku?
A single-entry e-Visa does not cover a second arrival after leaving Azerbaijan. Check the appropriate permission for the return visit and separately confirm whether your proposed border route is available.
