Irish ordinary passport holders need a visa for Azerbaijan and can apply for an e-Visa. Ireland’s travel advice expressly says passport cards cannot be used. Prepare a valid passport book, its identity-page copy and your travel details; choose Standard or Urgent according to the time available before arrival.

Why the Irish passport book matters for this application
Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs states that passport cards cannot be used for Azerbaijan. Take out the physical passport book before completing the form. Its document number, issue date and expiry must belong to the same identity page that you upload, rather than mixing details from a passport card and a book.
Irish residence is also different from Irish citizenship. Someone resident in Ireland on another nationality’s passport should check that passport’s entry arrangements. For a dual national choosing an Irish passport, use that passport consistently for the application and arrival; do not switch to a different document after a visa is issued without resolving the visa position.
Copy surname and all given names from the book, using its machine-readable Latin spelling where needed. Do not replace the passport number with a PPS number. If a saved travel profile still holds the old book’s number, update the application from the document in front of you.
Read the six-month advice alongside the visa-expiry rule
Irish travel advice recommends at least six months of passport validity after arrival and also identifies the requirement for three months beyond visa expiry. These refer to different reference dates. Compare the proposed arrival, the visa end date and your book’s expiry rather than relying only on the date you intend to fly home.
The normal electronic visa has a 90-day validity window with a stay of up to 30 days. The last possible visa date can therefore be later than a short trip’s return. If your passport is close to the required margin, resolve renewal before applying so the visa will be linked to the document carried.
After renewal, replace the stored scan as well as the entered number and dates. An image of the previous book does not become current simply because the traveller’s name is unchanged. Review these fields on the final application summary before proceeding to payment.

Plan from the final arrival and review children individually
On a connecting itinerary from Ireland, the useful visa date is the local arrival into Azerbaijan. An overnight change of plane may move this to the next day. If different family members arrive on different services, do not assume the lead traveller’s start date suits every application.
Prepare each person’s own passport-page image and inspect every resulting PDF independently. A shared accommodation booking or email address can be used where accurate, but it is not one visa for the whole party. Check names, number and dates for each traveller before printing the documents.
Ireland’s country advice reports land and sea entry restrictions. Recheck the specific route if planning to combine Baku with an overland or Caspian journey. The visa is single-entry: a departure and later return also needs a separate entry assessment, even within the original validity window.

Standard processing takes three working days; the Urgent option is three hours including non-working days. Leave preparation and correction time before the flight. Choosing Urgent does not make a passport card acceptable or repair an insufficient passport-validity period.
Upload a readable JPG, JPEG or PNG of the book’s identity page within 10 MB. Provide the actual accommodation address and an email you can access while travelling. Receiving a payment or application message is a different stage from receiving the issued visa; inspect the PDF and print it for the matching book.

Check passport expiry against the visa's expiry date: the passport must remain valid for at least three months after that date. The 90-day visa window does not allow a 90-day stay; the maximum stay is 30 days.

Can I enter Azerbaijan with an Irish passport card and an e-Visa?
Ireland’s travel advice says passport cards cannot be used. Apply and travel with the valid Irish passport book matching the visa details.
Is six months after my flight home the passport-validity calculation?
Do not use the return flight as the only reference. Irish advice refers to six months after arrival and the electronic visa condition refers to three months beyond visa expiry. Check the relevant dates against your book’s expiry.
Can an Irish resident apply under Ireland while using a foreign passport?
Residence in Ireland does not turn a foreign passport into an Irish passport. Select and check the travel document actually used for entry.
Can my children travel under my Irish e-Visa?
No. Keep each traveller’s own passport record and visa result. Check each child’s identity-page upload and issued PDF separately even when the family shares bookings and email.
Will selecting Urgent fix an application made with my passport card number?
No. Urgent is a processing option. Correct the application to the passport book and matching image before payment rather than relying on speed to resolve a document mismatch.
