The short answer
Do Spanish passport holders need a visa for Azerbaijan?
Spanish ordinary passport holders normally need a visa for Azerbaijan and are eligible for an online e-Visa. Spain’s travel advice requires a passport; a DNI is insufficient. The usual e-Visa covers one entry and up to 30 days of stay within its 90-day validity period, subject to the dates actually issued.

If the passport lists two surnames, review the whole surname field. Do not drop one because an airline or account screen abbreviates it.

Why your DNI is not the document for this application
Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs explicitly states that a current passport is needed for Azerbaijan and presentation of a DNI alone is not sufficient. Use the passport you will carry, even if the national identity card was enough for your last trip. A scanned DNI is not a substitute for the passport identity-page upload.
Check the document number on the passport itself. A number remembered from a DNI, NIE or tax record answers a different question. The application follows passport nationality, so a person resident in Spain who travels on another country’s passport should select that country and assess its entry rules separately.
Review apellidos and nombres before sending the form
Work with the passport open at the identity page. Read the complete surname entry and then the given-name entry. If you have two surnames or a compound given name, check that the review page has not lost part of the identity. Do not turn a second surname into a middle name simply to make it fit a familiar booking layout.
Compare the same information against the flight booking and uploaded image. If there is a genuine discrepancy, settle it before proceeding to payment. An accent, spacing difference or shortened account name should be examined in context; do not invent a new spelling or use a tax identifier to satisfy a passport field.

Choose the processing window from your Baku arrival
Use the date of arrival in Azerbaijan, which may differ from the departure date in Madrid or Barcelona when travelling overnight. Read the day, month and year individually. For example, an itinerary saying 4 May should not be turned into 5 April by copying an ambiguous numerical date. Confirm the displayed result before moving on.
Standard costs $59 per applicant with a three-working-day processing window. Urgent costs $99 in total with a three-hour processing option, operating through weekends and holidays. They are USD service packages, not EUR prices. Choose around a complete application and confirmed arrival, allowing time for corrections and for receiving the issued PDF.
Passport validity and visa validity are separate checks
The e-Visa passport rule is at least three months of validity after the visa expires. Calculate from the end of the visa window, rather than assuming that three months after a short return trip is always sufficient. If renewal is planned, receive the replacement and use its details throughout.
A 90-day visa window does not permit a 90-day holiday. The normal permitted stay is up to 30 days, and the printed dates still limit use. For a multi-country journey, departure for Georgia or another destination uses the entry already made; returning to Azerbaijan needs its own appropriate entry arrangement.
Organise one passport record and visa PDF per traveller
For a family, prepare each traveller’s passport and application separately, including children. Do not reuse the accompanying adult’s passport image or assume one visa covers the group. A shared email inbox can help organise documents, but check the recipient name and passport number in every PDF before printing.
Spain’s travel advice says to carry a printed copy of the electronic visa. Keep that with the matching passport and inspect the entry dates and stay before departure. If a child travels with only one parent or another adult, confirm any separate travel-consent requirements. For a stay over 15 days, check who will complete place-of-stay registration, especially in a private rental.

Questions from Spanish travellers
Can Spanish citizens apply for an Azerbaijan e-Visa using a DNI?
No. Spain’s Azerbaijan advice requires a passport and says that a DNI is not sufficient. Use the passport number and identity-page image from the document that will be carried on the trip.
Should I include both Spanish surnames in the application?
Read the entire surname field in the passport and review it against the application. Do not omit a surname or move it into the given-name field merely because another website shortened your name. Resolve unclear field mapping before submission.
Are the Azerbaijan e-Visa packages charged per family?
The $59 Standard and $99 Urgent totals are per applicant. Each child also needs an individual application. For more than one traveller, review the combined total before payment.
Can I use my visa before its start date if my flight changes?
Do not assume a visa beginning on a later date covers an earlier arrival. Compare the revised local Azerbaijan arrival with the issued visa dates before travelling and resolve any gap in permission.
Do I need to print the e-Visa for travel from Spain?
Yes. Spain’s travel advice describes travelling with a printed copy. Check that the PDF names the correct traveller and passport, then carry it with that passport.
