Resolve an expiring passport before relying on assistance in Baku

Sweden’s embassy in Baku explains that it cannot accept applications for ordinary passports or national identity cards because it lacks the required equipment. It directs those applications to Sweden or another suitably equipped Swedish mission. That makes passport preparation a task to address before the holiday rather than a routine errand to leave until arrival.

The embassy separately mentions provisional passports. That service does not establish that a provisional document can use this ordinary-passport e-Visa route, or that a visa for an old passport transfers. If a temporary or replacement document becomes necessary, clarify both its acceptance and the visa arrangement before travelling.

For the ordinary electronic route, passport validity must extend at least three months beyond the e-Visa expiry. Compare with the end of the visa window, not just the final day in a hotel. Where renewal is planned, use the issued replacement consistently in the application and any saved airline record.

Use travel-document details rather than a Swedish service identity

Have the passport identity page ready when entering the travel-document number. Use its passnummer, not a personnummer, coordination number or national-ID-card number. Familiarity with a domestic identifier does not make it the answer to a passport field.

Read the surname and given names as labelled. A commonly used first name in an email address may not represent all the given names printed in the passport. Check each entry against the uploaded page before payment. If renewal or a name change has left conflicting records, settle which issued document will be carried before choosing the final spelling.

Living in Sweden is not the same as holding Swedish citizenship. A traveller with another nationality should use the rules for the passport being presented. A residence permit may matter to a particular entry arrangement, but it should not be used to change nationality in this form.

Plan the visa window around arrival and check the delivered PDF

Use the local arrival in Azerbaijan from the final flight segment. If a connection or rerouting moves the arrival date, compare it with the visa start date before departure. A visa that begins later should not be assumed to cover an earlier arrival.

Standard is $59 USD per applicant with a three-working-day processing window. Urgent is $99 USD as a separate total with a three-hour option operating through weekends and holidays. The published prices are not SEK quotations. Prepare complete details and leave time for corrections and checking the issued result.

Use an email address that will remain available during the trip. On receiving the visa, compare name, passport number, validity and permitted stay, then print the correct PDF. The fact that a form was saved or payment was made does not establish that the visa has been issued.

Review children and onward trips as individual permissions

Every child needs a separate application linked to the child’s own passport. Review the expiry and image for each person, rather than assuming a child’s document lasts as long as the adults’ passports. A parent’s visa does not give another family member entry permission.

The usual electronic visa is single-entry. Leaving Azerbaijan and returning during a wider itinerary requires a review of the next entry even when the original visa window remains open. For a stay exceeding 15 days, organise place-of-stay registration with the accommodation provider separately from visa issuance.
